MY PORTFOLIO, PHOTOGRAPHS AND EVALUATION

MY PORTFOLIO

I have named my portfolio 27 days  27 photos at 27 Prospect

It was a daily mission to get  the shots I wanted to , to be honest alot of the time it was a  hit and miss.

The kids attention span was almost 0 but the moments I did catch was fun and funny .

There was abit  of disappointment with some of my shots,  not enough effort on my behalf with preparation , organising  and the camera settings.

THE RESEARCH

I did some research and  read about  the photographers techniques which I found really interesting.
Lighting and high and low angles were helpful for me , my subjects weren't.  Perhaps I should research on how to keep subjects still and quiet.

I also did some research on a portraiture photographer Sue Bryce  .She had excellent advice on how to seat your subject and how to position them when lying them down in a way they looked good and slim.  Anyway didn't really help with my subjects as they wouldn't really do anything I asked  but interesting to read and definitely take on board.

Keith Carter amazing photographs, I definitely liked his images, children with pets works for me as we have to pets.

Kate T Parker beautiful photographs of her daughters , I can relate to her techniques as I am photographing my own children.  Also Kate allows her children to be free and not constrict them I definitely can relate to this concept as I want to photograph my children in their own free environment in their own world.

I decided to put my photographs into sections.  I think its almost like a filing system . I can take as much photographs as I need to in a certain area,  file them and then and the end put together the best in each category . Perhaps that will work I don't know.

This is the beginning of my Portfolio....

This is our Home 27 Prospect where everything happens.. As my genre is documentary I felt I needed to give a full story , show the whole piece .  I wanted the viewer to see the start to finish,  where our day starts and our day ends.

This image shows to much of the front I wanted more in the background. This is actually photographed in the afternoon so this should be at the end perhaps.

this image is ok but I wanted to show more of the back view and its also and afternoon shot

I would like to add this image to my portfolio as this takes us from the front of the house  to the back and beyond to the Bombay hills in the  far background.  I would like to use this  perhaps as the first image .  Is this image strong enough for pole position ?

My next section is morning shots.

I had morning shots inside and outside.  These shots were taken out the front door .

This was taken at approximately 7.15 am . When I was taking photographs of the moon I noticed the Tui in the tree and quickly took this image.  When I went to camera raw the image was really  grainy so I played around with it and this was the best I could do .  I wont add this image because I wanted a better look. If I had of set my settings I think I would have captured what I had in mind.

The Tui leaving

The sparrows landed after the Tui left.

I love the moon , Im always trying to capture it .  This was taken at the same time about 7.15 am.

The moon early morning

Different shots of the moon early morning.
This is outside my front door.

These are back door morning photographs

Looking to the Bombays

Looking to Totara park,The Valley

Early sunrise

Looking outside my deck door early sunrise

These images were taken about 8am , I wanted to include these images in my Portfolio as they are part of my genre  ( documentary , personal ) and I felt  our out door environment as well as our indoor environmentLooking out of  are equally important.

My back door view in the morning. I love how the shadows appear over the white house.

Very early morning shot .  The Bombays always give off some spectacular cloud formations as well as beautiful sunrises

Back door images , these clouds were amazing .
I would like to add these images as I think they are lovely but will I be able to as there are alot more photographs to take and process.

I really love these sunrises . When I see the sunrise its a mad dash to get the camera out and get straight outside as these beautiful scenes can change in minutes.

These shots were all taken the same morning . The sunrises are truly beautiful to see but this beauty can be gone within minutes.  I missed alot of images because I just wasn't quick or organised enough to catch them.

PORTRAITURE SHOTS

After reading about and listening to Sue Bryce talking about portraiture shots I thought if I had a chance I would take some images and see if I would like to include them in my portfolio.  But as my subjects were my own children it was rather difficult to keep them still and pose.  Sissy was happy to participate but she had her own dress code and did her own poses.  Unlike some of the research  there subjects were well dressed and placed in co-ordintated places.

I love the expression on Tamatis face , he wasnt happy with me continuing to take photographs of him on th etrampoline .His comment to me was " Really mum stop clicking "
Silly time , my subjects just couldn't keep straight faces.

Theres alot of portraiture shots is this where I want my portfolio to lead to ?  I didnt intend to take this path and this will be a whole different genre and different photographers to research.  I think I feel more comfortable with the documentary genre I have already chosen.

I found with this type of work my subjects look to pretty to obvious, I prefer the more ruggard look, the unorganised look. I think that suits our family alittle more .

OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN

This image was part of the rain time.  Another shot I wanted to add to my portfolio but the ISO was to high and the image became very grainy and just wasnt good enough for my portfolio.

                                                                SECTION BLUR

What a disappointment this area is .

Some of my shots were out of focus and that is irritating because they were moments I couldn't get back as my shots were not staged and when I tried to reshoot it failed as by then the subjects had had enough a great learning kerb again .

This was a really interesting shot because of the water behind Toko and his onsey but It wasn't in complete focus.  I was very disappointed because this was a good photograph and I wanted to add this to my portfolio.

I put this image  in black and white as an experiment  but this didn't have the same effect as the colour one .

I really liked this image , the colour and what Victoria is trying to do,  juggling her towel and teddy bear. I had a low shutter speed 1/5  so this image failed as it is out of focus.

I actually liked this image I used flash and caught Kyle coming out of the room but I didnt feel this image would work in my portfolio so I had placed it in the bloopers portfolio.

THE FAMILY PETS

This  is pet number one .........MISS CHINGY...............

I wanted to include the pets as my genre was a documentary and I felt I had to cover the whole home area from front to back .  Later as I progressed I dropped the pet photos even though I liked them and they are a huge part of our lives there just wasn't enough time or space to add them .   I had to reduce our lives into 5 - 10 photographs .  Good luck with that.

SISSY SHARING A MOMENT WITH HER CAT.

Mimicking the cats movements

ANGUS THE BULL DOG

I  could have a done a portfolio alone on this old man but I had already chosen the children. I decided like the above not to add him  into my finals  as there wasn't enough room.

KITCHEN SCENES

Sissy baking what a mess !  I looked at these images and they  told a story but Im not sure if they were Portfolio standard. The lighting was difficult

THE LOUNGE SCENES

THE LOUNGE IS A HUGE PART OF OUR HOME.  WE HAVE A BEDROOM ,  COMPUTER ROOM AND TV  ROOM ALL COMBINED  INTO THE ONE ROOM . ITS LIKE A RAILWAY STATION VERY BUSY !

BATTLE OF THE TEDDY BEARS

ABIT OF FUN TIME

SICK TIME

This photograph would have to be in the finals if I have enough room because it is genuine , not staged they both were sick and Toko sneezed when I took the photo.  I think I captured a good image.

OUTSIDE TIME  &

WORKING WITH DAD

BOY 'S TIME

BATH TIME

Real attitude in the bath, not sure if I am comfortable hanging this type of photograph. I do like this image  , not sure if it is good enough for the final.

I dont think this angle works as well for this image perhaps I could have taken it at the bath level.

SISSY AND HER BRIGHT PINK ROOM

Another good colourful photograph not sure if I will have it the final.

Not liking the lighting not a favourite for my final.

Alot going on in this image , Im not sure if its to much colour.  Could be a final not sure .

Another shot I really like Sissy is angry and is showing this in her drawing. I would like to include this in the final.

I really like this photograph Sissy standing next to her drawing.  Colour is nice and bright and she is in focus.  I hope to put this one in the final.

NIGHT TIME

SLEEP TIME

.

Sissy sleeping, a great story behind this image but I wished I had of got her face in. Not including this in the final.
